Change of rules to Boost UK Membership!
The IPBA Board has agreed to relax membership rules for international Chapters. New Members can now decide to join the UK Chapter only, without joining the IPBA. This change recognises that the IPBA Convention, a major benefit of the IPBA, is not as accessible to international members as it is for US members.
Members who join the UK Chapter only will not be entitled to many of the benefits of the IPBA such as the Perfume Bottle Quarterly magazine, the annual directory of members and access to the library and will not be able to attend the annual Convention. They will of course be able to take part fully in the activities of the UK Chapter.
So, let's recruit some new members! If you know people who have wanted to join in the past but were put off by the high subscriptions, let them know that for only £10pa they can get the benefits of belonging to a specialist perfume collecting club.

Sixth Convention 30 Sept. and 1 Oct. 2006

Although attendance was very disappointing, our sixth convention, which was again held at the Comfort Hotel near Heathrow, was enjoyed by all the delegates.

The declining numbers prompted a renewed debate about having two levels of membership in the Chapter. It was decided this could be achieved by forming a UK Branch within the Chapter with branch members being eligible for UK activities but not those in the US and paying much smaller annual dues.

Our guest speaker, Janine Roxborough-Bunce gave an entertaining presentation about the work of the Fragrance Foundation in the UK and described the background and history of the annual FiFi awards. Janine raised the possibility of members taking part in the FiFi awards voting process - an exciting development for the UK Chapter.

On Sunday, the all-day sale was also disappointing, with fewer dealers than previously and not as many buyers, both members and public.
